Frequently Asked Questions:
Do the needles hurt and is it safe?
The needles are FDA approved as medical devices and are individually wrapped, totally sterile, and disposed of after one use. The needles are slightly thinner then the thickness of a hair and resemble filaments more than hypodermic needles and are solid with rounded tips that are designed to separate the layers of skin and rarely cause bleeding.
We are licensed professional who is board certified by the National Commission for Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) and Certified in Clean Needle Technique by the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (CCAOM) .
The acupuncture needles are extremely thin and flexible and help to stimulate temporary sensations of "Qi" -energy flow, heaviness, tingling, pulsing and itchiness around the needle and body. The needles are manipulated to provide therapeutic relief to the corresponding areas of the body, by allowing for "Qi" flow- thus restoring health and balance back to the body and bringing pain relief.
How Does it work and what will I feel during the treatment?
Studies have shown that acupuncture has regulatory effects on the immune, endocrine and nervous system. Oriental medicine modalities work by removing stagnation and restoring the "Qi” flow to the body. Acupuncture inserts fine needles into acupuncture points along specific meridians in the body to help regulate and insure flow, thus relieving pain.
How long will my course of treatment last?
Each patient receives a customized treatment plan based upon all the factors influencing the cause of the pain, such as the severity and duration of the imbalance and the constitution of the patient. Typically each session lasts 30-45 minutes.
It is possible to be fully free of your pain in one visit, but we encourage our patients to contiune treatments until pain is managable or completley gone.
Because pain can often return until the body has righted itself from the neuromuscular patterning that causes pain or from structural problems, we encourage our patients to visit us to keep up maintenace of their health and well being.
Son Jong Kim L.Ac, will go over your prognosis and treatment plan at the end of your first visit.
Our goal is to help you manage your pain and become pain free as soon as possible!
